How to make a paper wreath

Materials needed

The colors listed here make the wreath in the picture. Feel free to modify colors to your preference. Card stock sizes are all 8.5 by 11 inches. The weight is approximately 65-70 lb. Print everything in “Actual size”, not fit to paper.

You can follow along with 4 minute video.

Summary of steps:

Step 1

Each template makes two double antiprisms. This was designed so that you make one set of folds that works for the two antiprisms.

  1. Cut out the template along the outer black line with the scissor outline to get this:

2. Fold along the valley lines (purple and orange) until you get this:

3. Cut in half along the black line and do the mountain folds to get this:

4. Roll each folded paper strip and glue tabs as shown:

5. Repeat to make a total of 6 double antliprisms.

Step 2

Cut out 6 “elbow” templates and make valley folds along orange lines.

Step 3

  1. Glue the double antiprisms and elbows in an alternating way to each other, always starting with the bottom tag gluing two antiprisms to one another.

2. Continue until the last double antiprism connects to the first one, forming a closed chain.

3. The last elbow gets partially attached. Some of its tabs will be “sticking out”, but will later be covered by the red bands.

Step 4

You will need 6 strips. They are all on this page. Make the folds first, then cut out the strips. As with the double antiprisms earlier, the idea is to save time making the folds.

  1. Cut out the template along the outer black line with the scissor outline to get this:

2. Fold along the valley lines (purple and orange) until you get this:

3. Now cut along inner black lines to get 6 strips:

Step 5

The last step is to glue the red strips onto the wreath.

  1. The first strip needs to have glue on its entire inner side as well as the tab. It will cover the unattached blue tabs and help hold the entire wreath together.

2. The other five strips only to have the tabs glued. They will not slide off!
